We've decorated many rooms over the years but no other room garnered us more attention and positive feedback than our son Hugo's nursery, so when we found out we were expecting again we knew the pressure would be on! Our friends and family constantly joked about it too!
After finding out the sex of our expected October arrival we decided to go full blown girly on this one. Our home is currently overrun with trucks, trains and planes from our 2 year old son so we wanted to make sure our little lady would have her special place in our house.
Since our children are so close in age we didn't have the option to do any hand-me-downs so we had to start from scratch. Which is fine, because we wanted to do something different this time anyways! We started by scraping the ceiling of the existing builder popcorn to a smooth finish. We then added crown moulding and a ceiling medallion for the light fixture. We debated possibly doing the wallpaper on the ceiling but it had been done numerous times before so we decided to frame it with moulding for a different look.
As with anything, sometimes things take a few tries. Our first idea for the dresser was to buy a traditional french vintage dresser and paint it a pale pink which we did. After having it in the room for a few weeks we really started to noticed how bad the drawers were and even after cleaning it and painting it, it still strongly smelt "old". Even though we liked the way it looked we quickly grew apart from that thing and ended up buying the matching dresser to our crib. It took some time to arrive but when it finally did it was an "ahhhh.." moment. It felt right. We still ended up changing the hardware on it to brass handles and oh so pretty knobs we found at Anthropologie.
Many of you have already asked about the ceiling fixture. Unfortunately it was from one our suppliers but they discontinued it shortly after we ordered it for her room. I know right, bummer!
After our expecting post on Instagram we were fortunate to have a few brands reach out to us to be part of the new nursery. The first was Babyletto who make the crib and dresser from Hugo's nursery. They helped us this time with the Trapeze glider you see below. It's sooo comfy, we love it! The second was a local maker GenWoo who graciously provided us with the beautiful tassels over her dresser!
So, that's it! The only thing we have left to do is replace the old carpet which is mostly hidden under the 8x10 rug when we move forward with more renovations in our house. Hopefully soon!
