TEXAS TRIP - AUSTIN

Over the years we had heard such amazing things about Austin, Texas. So when an opportunity came up to visit this past June, we couldn't pass it up. We had been eyeing the Dallas trade market for some time and decided to pull the trigger this year, and we added a few days before the show to make time for stops in Austin and Waco.

Soon after we touched down in the Lone Star State, we visited the Central Standard Diner located in the South Congress hotel. From start to finish this place was the tops! Modern design and delicious food. Highly recommend.

After dinner, we headed down the street to the South Congress bridge. We had googled top things to do in Austin and watching "the bats" kept ranking at the top.  One and a half million bats live inside the bridge and emerge at dusk for their nightly feast! The pictures really don't do it justice. This was such a unique experience! There were even electric cabs parked on the bridge playing the Batman theme, ha! We then took a quick walk around the river to take in those Austin views.

Our hotel happened to be right near one of our biggest suppliers. First thing on Tuesday morning we headed over to their headquarters to view some of our favourite pieces in person.

After some tacos and a bit of indecision due to the rain we decided to visit The Domaine, a multi-purpose shopping, eating and residential area.

We popped into some of our favourite shops like CB2, RH and discovered plenty of new brands here! It seemed like every store had an amazing, fresh design aesthetic. We left here truly retail-inspired!

After discovering Hank's on Instagram, we knew we had to stop into this recently opened restaurant. The mostly white exterior and interior with pops of leather were the stuff of insta dreams.  The vibe was very casual; a kind of  "everybody is welcome, at any point of the day" place. Our food came quickly and was seriously delicious! (We ate really well on this trip, can you tell!?)

After Hank's, we headed back to the hotel to relax for a minute and change into hiking clothes. We made our way to Mount Bonnell, a much-hyped lookout point. On our way, we spotted this famous Austin mural and had to stop to snap a few pics!

After a mostly gloomy day, the sunset came out to play and the view from up there was simply stunning. We also enjoyed looking at the modern properties lining the river.

Before we left for Waco on Wednesday morning we took a quick jog in the neighbourhood around the hotel. We had to snap some shots of these modern beauties and this plant that we are convinced is straight from Mars!
