Personalize Your Home. Does your home reflect who you are and your taste? It Should.
You don't have to have expensive style, a well put together space can look like a million bucks to you, if it's done properly. Nate Berkus thinks the key to design is personalization and we would have to agree with him. A room designed with the inspiration of a certain style, mood and colour, with hits of personal touches will make the all the difference to the space. If you have neat pieces you have collected over the years, you may just need to shine them in a new light to really be able to appreciate them, or buy new interesting pieces that say something about who you are.
Another key is to never buy sets of anything, especially large bulky dark furniture it may overwhelm the space. If you mix and match pieces that coordinate with the theme of the room, but aren't matchy matchy it makes the space so much more interesting and unique. You want people to walk in and feel comfortable yet wowed by how great the space looks and how much it reflects you as individuals.
Don't always shop at the same stores. If your buying everything from one store, your home will look like it's straight out of the showroom. While in theory that isn't such a bad thing, it doesn't give the space a homey personal feel. It also doesn't really act as a conversation starter if everyone knows where all your furniture is from. You want people to be curious and ask questions. "Oh where did you find this?!"
Check out locally owned stores, antique and vintage shops, as well as new stores you wouldn't normally go to. You can even get your DIY on if you check out thrift stores and Kijiji for items that may need a little TLC, but have great potential!! Expand your horizons and open you mind to new possibilities. There are so many options now a days for all budgets. If you are a savvy shopper there are lots of deals to be had, and great pieces to find.
You can mix old and new and you can definitely mix pricey items with inexpensive pieces. Mixing textures and colours is also key. Use white and dark pieces to contrast each other, as well add wood for warmth, and silver or gold pieces for cool contrast. Find inspiration through pictures and plan out your space. Then be on the lookout for certain pieces and in no time your space will come together !!

Our new clients asked us to help them out with their master bedroom. They liked their bed (so did we) but wanted to start fresh with everything else. The owners weren't loving the dark green they originally painted the room, we agreed and revamped it with a fresh off-white. Next we added a beautiful silver tree wallpaper to give the room that cozy nature feel we love so much. Some of the challenges with this master came with dealing the small size of the room and fitting in a king size bed. That didn't leave much room for side tables but we feel side tables are always essential in a master bedroom. After shopping for a while for a certain size table we were only able to come up with a few "condo" furniture options we weren't particularly fond of. Our clients told us they had a friend that fabricated furniture and would look into asking him to make the tables for us. They followed through and did he ever deliver! Perfect fit and style we were aiming for. Once we had that aspect settled we edited some of their family vacation photos and printed them in black and white for a feature art wall. Finally, the dresser we picked out arrived and we added a few accents, bedding, lighting, curtains and final touches. Voila, a new crisp and cozy bedroom by Leclair Decor.

Living rooms can be formal for after dinner drinks or casual spaces to hang out in all day Saturday. Depending on the function and style of your space there may be pieces that are more important than others, but generally speaking these are the 5 best pieces in addition to the obvious couch, coffee table, side table(s)... 1. Area Rug
An area rug really helps to anchor the space, frame it out and add a warmth for under your toes. It can also add a pop of colour or texture. A neutral shag or a patterned wool rug are classic looks and can really help lighten a dark space, soften a space with a lot of wood, and be an essential addition to a beautiful cozy living room.
Lighting plays a huge role in every space and can be very underestimated. If you are sitting around having a quiet drink or reading a book you don't need to light up the whole room. Task lighting including reading lamps, floor lamps and table lamps can really help add functional and ambiance lighting depending on the situation.
The couch is a big part of any living space and the art that is hung above it should generally take up 2/3 - 3/4 of the size of the couch. This helps to balance it out. A small piece will make the space feel uncomfortable and incomplete. You can use one large canvas, or framed print or you can use two or three smaller ones that would take up the same amount of space on the wall.
4. Accent Pillows and Throws
These small but significant pieces can add a few different things to your living room. A pop of colour, pattern and or texture. They can help lighting a dark couch or contrast with a light couch. You can have fun with them play around with different ones depending on your mood or the season.
Accessories are essential to any living space. They add unique touches and can really personalize and complete the room. Books, bowls, vases, knick knacks you've collected over the years (or just recently) really impact the feel of the room. Don't overwhelm the space with them, but add enough to make it interesting.
Curtains are also a nice touch if the room allows for it. They can soften the space and add height to the room.
