Leclair Home: Hugo's Bedroom

Today on the blog, we’re revealing Hugo’s bedroom—3.0! We had updated our son’s room earlier on in our time at this home, with bold wallpaper and a shiplap ceiling detail. When completing our larger renovation, we were replacing the carpeting throughout the upper level and decided it was time for Hugo’s room to get the full LD treatment!

RETURNING TO A NEUTRAL CANVAS

We began by replacing the old carpeting with the same hardwood flooring used throughout our home. We kept the shiplap ceiling detail and updated the walls with a fresh coat of paint, swapping the playful wallpaper for something a little more subtle that will grow alongside Hugo. We also added new trim to elevate the look.

COLOUR AS INSPIRATION

Hugo’s favourite colour is yellow, featured in the wallpaper used in the earlier version of his room. We still wanted to incorporate yellow in the space, but in more subtle, grown-up ways. Yellow became the room’s accent colour, as seen in the throw pillows, wall art, and our favourite piece—the statement ceiling fixture. We love its bright golden interior that almost feels like the sun! We also updated the nightstands, wall sconces, and added a new low-pile, kid-friendly rug.

SLEEK STORAGE SOLUTIONS

Another big change in Hugo’s room was replacing his bookshelves with a gallery wall. While we loved using the shelves for storage and display when he was younger, they now often ended up looking cluttered. Hugo’s room is slightly larger than Evelyn’s, so we had space to add a large, light wood-toned dresser for additional clothing storage and his own special things.
