Weekly Warmth: Healthy Habits

The Weekly Warmth is a reminder to take time for yourself. Here, I share a weekly collection of fashion, cooking, lifestyle, and design favourites, along with uplifting stories, helpful tips, and more. With the Weekly Warmth, we can all come back to a creative space and find special moments in the everyday.

Does anyone else feel like they dove headfirst into 2022? It’s already been such a busy couple of weeks for us, between LD goal-setting, new projects, and virtual learning with the kids at home. Amongst it all, I’m finding new ways to stay healthy, focused, and make a little time for myself. This week, I’m sharing a few of the habits that are keeping me on track. I hope you draw inspiration from the little things that brought me warmth this week.

  1. Fitness has been a priority for us for some time, and like everyone else this month, we’re trying to keep it high on the list without access to the gym. I’ve been getting up a little earlier to start each day with a 20 to 30-minute workout. This helps me feel energized throughout the day and allows a little “me” time before the kids wake up. YouTube is my go-to for a variety of free workouts. Looking for new HIIT, cardio blast, and dance programs keeps it exciting. I also treated myself to a couple of new athletic outfits, and it feels so motivating to put them on.

  2. I believe enjoying your morning routine is so important. I’ve found my own little breakfast ritual that I wake up looking forward to. I sit and savour my Bavarian toast with natural peanut butter and fresh berries on top from our minimal dishware that I’m still in love with, while sipping my green tea. Right now, I’m loving the Stash Jasmine Blossom Green Tea.

  3. I’ve been playing around with my skincare routine since the holidays, but the constant in my drawer is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar face wash. It takes my makeup off easily but doesn’t disrupt the sebum layer of your skin so it’s not drying at all in the winter weather. I’ve also recently tried Fenty skincare products—I like that they’re green and tick off my skincare concerns: minimizing pores, discolouration, and evening skin tone. The toner serum goes on smooth and has a great fresh scent.

  4. Having quick healthy snacks on hand keeps us from running to junk food over the winter months. We cut up fresh veggies to keep in the fridge and pick up hummus from our local Lebanese restaurant. Sacha and I both love pistachios for some easy energy and keep them pre-shelled and easy to grab in these glass containers. I also keep chia seeds in the smallest canisters to throw into pancakes, yogourt, and muffins to get some sneaky omega-3 fatty acids into the kids.

  5. I’m doing my best to round out my day with a healthy, mindful bedtime routine. I’ve been trying to stay off my phone after 9 pm, to avoid overstimulation. I get ready for bed and snuggle in under our new LD x Obasan duvet and turn to the Calm app for a quick journal reflection and a 10-minute meditation to slow down my mind. These daily practices certainly take work but are so worth the moments of stillness throughout the day and to wind down at night.
