Our Leclair Westmount clients initially approached us about helping them with a few 'small projects' to spruce up their newly purchased home in the historic Westmount neighbourhood of Montreal. The small projects quickly evolved into a full tilt remodel once we got into the space and we were fully inspired by its untapped potential. A century-old stone home last updated in what we think was the 80s or early 90s, the house had amazing bones but felt caught between two lifetimes. Our clients were a vibrant young family and we wanted to do justice to the home’s classic appeal while still bringing it into this millennium. The furniture and lighting choices throughout are fun, modern, and full of colour and texture, but we stuck (mostly) to a backdrop of airy white walls with wainscotting in a few key places for added interest. Our vision for the Pinefield was a modern-meets-traditional home that would wow. From the beginning, our direction for this space was ‘uptown chic’. We used a mix of traditional design elements in combination with more modern touches like the statement light fixtures. The base palette for the home was classic black-and-white, with the addition of some warmer neutrals and deep forest green to breathe life into the design. The result is a stylish, high contrast environment that feels sophisticated but approachable. Pinefield Our vision for the Pinefield was a modern-meets-traditional home that would wow. The Portland Cottage is a stunning project of ours that is nestled in the woods overlooking Big Rideau Lake - the perfect place for an escape from the city! The natural setting heavily inspired the palette used for the project and influenced many of the decisions surrounding the design. One thing that remained a priority throughout the entire process of designing the layout of the cottage, all the way to selecting the furnishings for the space, was to create a space that encourages connection. And if we're being honest, we think our team created the perfect spot to do just that. Our clients for this project were a super cool, design-savvy, young couple who also became parents just as the project was wrapping up. They have spent a lot of time on the West coast of both Canada and the US and wanted to incorporate that cool, California vibe into their custom home. Modern California paired with our signature warm modern aesthetic to keep things fresh and relaxed. White walls, minimal splashes of deep, organic colours, oversized art, and comfy sofas and armchairs that you can sink into. Polished but not fussy, we wanted guests to feel relaxed and immediately at home when they walked through the front door. This Ottawa-area remodel features a nearly century-old family home with fantastic bones and traditional character. The original scope of the project included two additions, however, due to permitting issues we had to work with the original footprint of the home, which meant creating space-saving solutions around every corner. We reorganized the entire floor plan, adding square footage to the main bath and space for wall-to-wall cabinetry in two bedrooms fit for sophisticated teens. We painted all of the spaces in a fresh white to elevate the overall aesthetic and matched existing trim, baseboards, and casings to maintain a classic look. Custom millwork stole the show in this project, featuring in each space to provide extensive storage and elevated design. We redesigned the main bath from top to bottom, replacing the bathtub with a walk-in shower framed in glass doors and a white tile surround to open up the space. We also designed a custom vanity with above-counter cabinetry to run the length of the space, providing ample storage behind natural oak drawers and reeded-glass doors. The result is a bright, clean, and functional space. In the teen boy’s room, it’s again custom millwork that takes centre stage. We installed wall-to-wall millwork incorporating two wardrobes and a desk in walnut for a slightly masculine finish. The playful wallpaper detail behind the integrated open shelves can be easily updated as he grows. In the teen girl’s room, we installed more wall-to-wall cabinetry, this time with sliding closet doors to allow space for a double bed and nightstand. The cane inlay and brass details on the millwork make the built-in feel intentional and elevated, yet youthful. The overall look of the remodel is one of calming, organized, modern design that is sure to carry this family for years to come. Our most diverse and ever-evolving project is our own LD Shoppe Showroom in Ottawa. We took over this space in the fall of 2018 and immediately got to work transforming it into the curated boutique showroom we had always dreamed of for LD Shoppe. A year later, the space next door became available as well and we smashed through the wall (literally) to double our floor space and bring our design studio back together with our Shoppe team. Our showroom is a true creative passion project for us, and we love that we’re able to imagine and reimagine our room vignettes over and over again in different ways. This section of our portfolio contains some permanent highlights from our showroom as well as some of our favourite vignettes. Our Riverside Modern is high contrast, striking, sophisticated — and relaxed. We designed these spaces for an active family of four who were looking for a polished and pulled together space that still felt liveable. This meant including ample storage, furniture that could withstand the occasional pillow fight, and curated decor thoughtfully placed out of little hands’ reach. We love the classic base palette of black and white, sprawling sectional, oversized artwork and layers of warm, family-friendly texture. This project was all about creating a home that felt upscale and impressive but still totally relaxed. Our clients were a young, easy-going and (at the time) childless couple who love to travel but both work from home quite a bit while they’re at home in Ottawa. They wanted the house to feel open and airy, but still cozy, which can sometimes be a challenge - especially with soaring ceilings. To achieve the vibe, we focused on simple, classic finishes and statement pieces throughout. We love that this house has wow factor without feeling like there’s ‘too much’ of anything. The aim of this home office project was to create a serene work environment for two busy professionals. Located at the front of the home, the room receives plenty of natural light and is set conveniently apart from their three kids’ main play area at the rear of the house. The directive was simple: bright, minimal refuge for reading & working in peace. Modern millwork stretches along the side wall and offers a work surface as well as ample concealed storage for things like file folders and a printer and open shelving to display personal treasures & decor. The whispery grey-green colour of the millwork adds gentle contrast and depth to the space while still keeping everything soft and calming.
